This song has a nice blend of acoustic and electric guitars, with the acoustics acting as a nice chordal bed for the more melodic instruments to play over. The song details a story about domestic abuse, with ‘Independence Day’ actually meaning a mother gaining her independence from an abusive partner. The song did pretty well commercially and peaked at the number 12 spot on the Hot Country Songs chart. Originally written by Gretchen Peters, this track was passed onto and recorded by Martina Mcbride for her 1982 album ‘The Way That I Am’.
